Frequently Asked Questions

What is Scottish Country Dancing?

It's the social dancing of Scotland usually done to fiddle, accordion or bagpipe music. It's a fun, social dance usually done in sets of eight dancers. Scottish Country Dancing should not be confused with Scottish Highland Dancing which is usually danced solo and associated with the Highland Fling and the sword dance.

Do I have to be Scottish?

Not at all. People from all nationalities enjoy Scottish Country Dancing.

Do I need a partner?

Not at all. Just come as you are. We're very friendly and approachable and you'll make new friends in no time!

Do I need a kilt or other special attire?

As long as you are wearing casual, comfortable clothes, you'll be fine. As you will be dancing, it's sensible to come with flat-soled shoes or sneakers. Heels and dancing aren't a good combination!

Do I need some background in dancing?

If you can count to 8, you'll be fine. The basic steps and formations will be taught in the Beginners' Class.

How can I get more information?

Use the contacts on the left to either call or email one of our committee members. They'll be happy to give you more information and share their love of Scottish Country Dancing!
