YOUR TEACHERS:

JOAN REEVES

Joan Reeves began ballroom dancing at age 7 and helped teach it for 14 years. She also danced in a Hungarian folk dance troupe. Her only regret is not having discovered SCD until the age of 49, when she joined the Buffalo , New York Branch of which she is a past chairperson. She became a member of the St. Catharines Ontario Branch. Joan met a fellow SCD addict, John Reeves, at TAC Summer School, Brock University . They trained as teachers in Hamilton and were married in 1990. Joan is in her 18th year of teaching in Peterborough and 4th with the Port Perry SCD. She was instrumental in the formation of a SCD group in Parry Sound , Ontario .  She and John are well-known to devotees of TAC Summer School for the many years they have served as “stooge masters” for teacher candidate exams.

IAN SOUTER

Ian Souter was born in Glasgow, immigrating to Canada with his parents at a young age. In 1966, he started dancing in Hamilton , Ontario at the age of 16, and danced with a team, “A Lad and his Lassies” which won many competitions. Ian attained his full teaching certificate in 1971 with Miss Milligan as his examiner, then taught the children’s class in Hamilton for a few years. Marriage to Pat, raising children and a move took him away from SCD for a while. In 1999, Ian was back dancing. Since then he has been involved with the Hamilton branch executive and TAC executive, just concluding his term as chairperson of TAC. Currently Ian is teaching the Blair class in Cambridge , Ontario . For 33 years, Ian has worked at Dofasco in Hamilton as a Stationery Engineer and looks forward to retirement.

Joan and Ian are delighted to teach at the London workshop and looking forward to meeting everyone.
